Abstract To effectively harness the growing urbanization, energy consumption as well as maintain a green environment to improve the citizens’ standard of living and develop their skills in using and adopting modern information and communications technologies (ICTs) is what smart cities are meant for. In smart cities, ICT is performing a central role in the policy formulation planning, enactment, and finally upshot of productive services. With the advancement of technology and increasing demand for effective healthcare methods, machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) have evolved into very influential tools in medical care. This work highlights the opportunities that ML and AI can provide in solving these issues so as to improve the health delivery services within smart cities. It outlines how ML algorithms can learn from the data, generate forecasts, and identify patterns and insights related to disease diagnosis, treatment planning as well as health management in smart cities. We investigate the use cases for ML and AI in the healthcare for smart cities. In developing smart cities, we will assess the advantages of ML and AI in the healthcare. It outlines further increased accuracy and productivity in the diagnosis, better treatment outcomes, cost minimization, and also appropriate resource utilization. It additionally highlights the many opportunities of ML and AI to provide proactive healthcare interventions as a means of preventing people from getting sick. This detailed analysis, therefore presents a concise summary of the development and also deployment in healthcare for smart cities. It reveals how these technologies change many things, why that is also a problem, and what good it does. This analysis provides an important contribution to the body of knowledge for healthcare professionals, policymakers, researchers, and also technologists operating in the field of smart city health. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Diptendu Sinha Roy, Mir Wajahat Hussain, K.
