Abstract In this paper, a circularly polarized dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) for improving the harvesting power with a compact antenna dimension is presented. For designing the antenna within the suitable frequency range, a one-fourth cylindrical dielectric resonator (DR) in addition to a dumbbell-shaped slot in the ground plane is investigated for the 2.45 GHz Wi-Fi band. Two metallic strips in the form of a V-shape are placed above the proposed DR at the position of its vertex to achieve circular polarization (CP) characteristics. The proposed approach offers axial ratio characteristics below 3dB level over a wide range, between 2.0-2.53 GHz. The proposed antenna offers an additional feature of having omnidirectional properties helping in receiving EM energy from all directions. Hence, the proposed antenna is useful for RF energy harvesting applications. © 2021 IEEE.
