Abstract Many countries, including Russia, are paying increasing attention to improving the quality of the urban environment, which is impossible without a corresponding improvement of infrastructure. This is related not only to the new sanitary requirements caused by the covid19 pandemic, but also in general to the development of cities and the strengthening of their role in socio-economic development. In Russia, web.rf is actively implementing a programme to support the development of a modern urban economy, focusing on the country's 100 largest cities. Development of urban infrastructure is always the responsibility of local authorities. Today, the investor is ready, within the framework of public-private partnership, to participate in joint implementation of infrastructure projects. The paper considers current trends in the development of urban infrastructure in Russian practice. The sectors in which "smart city" projects are implemented to the greatest extent are considered. © 2022 American Institute of Physics Inc.. All rights reserved.
