Abstract Among the reasons for migration, place branding is one important consideration. The present study seeks to present a gist of the reasons, possibilities and challenges for migration to Smart Cities which are ‘branded’ in terms of repute and specific unique aspects of the Smart City which pull and attract the migrants. Experts’ opinion was considered as a viable research method for the purpose. It may be inferred from the experts’ opinion that migrants prefer moving into ‘branded’ Smart Cities contingent upon the opportunities anticipated from moving into such Smart Cities apart from the avenues of a better quality of life in such ‘branded’ Smart Cities. As a first study aiming to understand the host of factors responsible for the migration in such Smart Cities, it is anticipated that a more nuanced understanding of the issues is attained. © IFIP International Federation for Information Processing 2023.
