Abstract This study presents the development and implementation of a WebGIS application for building condition assessment and urban asset management in Petaling Jaya City, Malaysia. The research addresses the growing need for efficient facility management in rapidly developing urban areas by integrating building condition data with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology. The methodology involved comprehensive field surveys for data collection, GIS data processing, and developing a web-based decision support system. The WebGIS tool that has been developed includes an interactive map designed for visualizing spatial data. It shows building locations and their conditions, and offers a query function for targeted searches, as well as basic analytical features for managing municipal infrastructure. Key benefits of the application include improved asset management, enhanced support for urban planning decisions, increased transparency through public access, and greater efficiency in information retrieval and analysis. This innovative approach to building condition assessment and visualization demonstrates the significant potential of GIS technology in urban management, offering a user-friendly interface accessible to both municipal officials and the public. The application contributes to more effective urban planning and management strategies, potentially serving as a model for other municipalities seeking to optimize their building asset management processes to develop smarter, more efficient cities. By leveraging cutting-edge geospatial technologies and user-centered design principles, this research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on smart city initiatives and provides a practical tool for enhancing urban management practices in rapidly developing urban environments. © 2025, SHPMedia Sdn Bhd.
