Abstract Vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) wireless communication protocols are crucial for modern transportation systems. These protocols facilitate real-time data exchange between vehicles, enabling enhanced safety, efficiency, and traffic management. With the rise of autonomous vehicles, V2V communication becomes even more vital, as it allows vehicles to share information about their surroundings, such as traffic conditions, road hazards, and weather updates. Researchers are actively investigating V2V protocols to improve reliability, security, and interoperability. Understanding these developments is essential for policymakers, engineers, and manufacturers to establish standardized protocols and deploy them effectively, paving the way for safer and more efficient transportation networks. Employing bibliometric analysis enables the identification of research themes, authors, and organizations, facilitating a comprehensive understanding of their evolution. This informs the strategic implementation of V2V communication protocols in modern transportation systems effectively. © 2025 Elsevier Inc.
