| Abstract | One of the main aims of the smart city paradigm is to reduce the environmental footprint of urban growth by managing the urban mobility in a citizen-friendly way. Facilitating and encouraging citizens to walk is a way to make the modern form of urban mobility greener and safer. Evidence of the benefits of walking and walkable urban forms has appeared in different strands of literature, suggesting the multidisciplinary nature of it. The main aim of this chapter is to document and review the existing measures of urban walkability, along with the relevant cases where the attempts to measure walkability were made, thereby contributing a wider literature which aims to identify and understand factors that are most relevant for urban walkers. © 2023, IGI Global.
