Abstract Big data has become essential given the mass of data generated by different domains and which has become impossible to manage by traditional data management tools; vehicular ad-hoc network is one of those areas that use the tools and technologies of data management of big data. In the present paper, we propose a method that aims to detect anomalies in the road and calculate the time spent in each road section in real time, which will allow us to have a base containing the estimated time spent in all sections in real time, it will help us to send to the vehicles the exact estimated time of arrival all along their way. This base will also allow us to detect an accident or anomaly in a section in real time as well. © 2019 Association for Computing Machinery.
