Abstract The effects of technological innovation on people's lifestyles are being examined more and more as it gains traction and is observed and documented in cities across the globe. Many consequences are being seen in related but indirect domains outside the direct ones where such technologies are used. The cultural domain and the confluence of the global tourism industry are two examples of this. The former is driving up demand for cultural items and destinations, while the latter is putting traditional metropolitan regions' richness at odds with technological products connected with smart cities. If the quick adoption of new technology is not examined, it may result in urban homogenization and further obliterate local identities. The goal is to ascertain people's present degree of understanding regarding the influence that technology has on our society and how valuable they believe these technologies are in resolving similar issues. © The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2023.
