Abstract City tourism is an important aspect of tourism and contributes significantly to overall tourism-generated revenue. But there is great competitiveness among various destinations and cities in India. So, there is a need for different integrated approaches to attract tourists. Urban cultures comprising the freshly built infrastructure and a rich cultural legacy in tangible and intangible forms become an emerging attraction if guided by smart technology. In this favour, tourism in Jaipur city in India sets a perfect example, as mentioned by t Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in 2022. The paper focuses on consumers' perception of smart tourism, where heritage, culture, urbanization and the issues that seem out their interaction, quoting Jaipur city as an example. Secondary data from different sources have been analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively in the context of perception, urbanization and traditional heritage. The cumulative effect of various concerns that emerged due to messy urbanization has changed tourists' perceptions. With urbanization, the tourism flow in Jaipur city has improved numerically, but the city's share in total travellers of the state has decreased. The government is working on about 140 cities nationwide under the smart city mission from 2019-2023. Therefore, a different dimensional approach is needed to implement the current policies and programs of urban development, mainstreaming the issues of cultural heritage conservation. This paper highlights the importance of smart tourism in branding cities as emerging destinations by implementing technological factors at various stages. © 2023 IEEE.
