Abstract This research reports the design of a tri-band (TB) four-port MIMO antenna configuration radiating EM energy. The proposed antenna consists radiating patch printed on the top plane of the top plane which consists of a circular ring embedded within the slotted-hexagonal geometry. The opposite plane is printed with the rectangular partial ground which is etched by a rectangular slot for better impedance matching. The antenna configuration generates three operating narrow-band bandwidths corresponding to 12.81GHz-13.965GHz (Ku band), 14.90GHz-19.355GHz (Ku-K band), and 37.78GHz-43.61GHz (5G-mmWave FR2 band: n259 & n260). The orthogonal arrangement ensures isolation of more than 15.0dB with diversity parameters ECCTB <0.02 & DGTB >9.998 dB. The peak gain corresponds to 3.88dBi at 13.63GHz, 4.74dBi at 16.13GHz, and 5.00dBi at 40.62GHz. The proposed MIMO antenna is easily deployable in the 5G infrastructure environment for smart city and IoT applications. © 2023 IEEE.
