The future belongs to smart cities, smart homes and smart things - today the overwhelming majority of experts and specialists have no doubts about this. No matter how smart modern technologies are, they are all dependent on their power supply system, because electricity is their power source, without which functioning of most smart technologies is physically impossible. In addition, electrical energy, like any product, has certain indicators of its quality, at a low value of which various problems arise, both for the electricity consumers and the suppliers. The study aims to summarize the current state of power quality (PQ) in the field of smart energy management, providing insight into the ways in which current barriers can be overcome. We give a discussion to present a vision for future smart cities in term of PQ monitoring and management. In order to attract attention to problems of low power quality the research focus is made on the aspects of smart city's electricity consumption. This review looks at the current developments in the smart cities energy infrastructure, focusing on techniques in the main application areas along with relevant power quality examples, while highlighting some of the key challenges currently faced and outlining future pathways. A field testing results are also provided to illustrate the current situation in main linefeeds objects of smart city as an example, and PQ control and monitoring system requirements are formulated. © 2020 IEEE. |
