Abstract Today's society places a growing emphasis on sustainability, and digital technologies are essential to attaining sustainable development. We can use digital technologies to lessen our environmental impact, conserve resources, and create communities that are more resilient. Through the utilization of renewable energy sources to power data centers and other computer infrastructure, digital technologies can help to promote sustainability. Digital technologies can also support more sustainable agriculture methods, intelligent energy grids, and efficient transportation systems. Waste management and reduction are crucial elements of sustainability. By allowing recycling and resource sharing, digital technology can aid in the reduction of waste. Online markets and sharing platforms, for instance, can facilitate more effective use of commodities and services while lowering the need for wasteful purchases. Digital technology could also significantly contribute to the advancement of sustainability and the reduction of the effects of climate change. Technology and sustainability are tools to ensure the progress and competitiveness of a company. The literature to this day defends the development of a new type of sustainable leadership. This type of leadership has been formed because of the need that companies have to be more sustainable. Sustainability is made up of three factors: the environment, society, and economic growth. It has been concluded that there is a positive correlation between technology or business digitization and sustainability, digitization, and good leadership, and finally, technology and sustainable leadership. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
