| Abstract | The present study attempts to explore the linkage between technology, sustainability, and development, emphasizing the potential opportunities and challenges that arise when attempting to promote sustainable practices through technological advancements and innovative solutions. It discusses the concept of sustainability and all of its facets, including environmental, social, and economic sustainability. It investigates how digital technologies, innovative solutions, and cutting-edge approaches might support sustainability, such as through renewable energy sources, smart cities, and sustainable agricultural practices. Furthermore, it points out several research gaps that need to be addressed in the future, and proposes various research agendas. It acknowledges the potential downsides of technological solutions, such as the risk of creating new forms of waste or exacerbating existing inequalities. The study further argues that although technology can be an effective and powerful tool for promoting sustainability, it must be used in a thoughtful and intentional way to ensure that it truly contributes to a more sustainable future. The study theoretically contributes to the existing literature and provide valuable implications for developers, practitioners, and policymakers. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024. |
