Abstract	Crime is an ever-rising phenomenon. This research work reviews the various technological solutions which can be leveraged to prevent crime in better ways than existing structures. Crime Mapping techniques are considered first, with different ways of identifying and labelling crime hotspots. Then Predictive Policing techniques are reviewed, with different concepts to classify crime. Underlying criminology theories are also reviewed and discussed. Finally, possible approaches to retrofit these techniques to Smart Cities are considered, to provide a holistic solution to the problem of crime solving. © 2020 IEEE.
