Abstract Smart cities consist an assortment of electronic equipment applied by some applications, such as sensors in a transportation and system cameras in a monitoring system, and so on. Moreover, recent advances and the dynamics of the increase of the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) have contributed to the evolution of the supply chain and logistics sector. In indeed, the analysis of massive data (Big Data) coming from smart-products makes it possible to extract enormous values for the decision-making of strategic choice: commercial or technical. But this also causes research problems because of the speed of data transmission, the massive volume, and the non-homogeneous types of data. In the article, we answer the following problem: what are the possibilities to use Smart Logistics (SL) solutions in Smart Cities (SC)? The basic assumptions of the Smart-Logistics (SL) and Smart-Cities (SC) are characterized. In addition, this article also describes future directions in this promising area. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
