Abstract The purpose of this article is to explore the evolution of city logistics in order to contribute to the creation of sustainable and livable cities. To improve urban living circumstances, a balance between economic growth and environmental and security preservation must be achieved. Sustainable logistics management has emerged as a major objective for municipal operations. Smart cities have grown into a technology- and data-driven paradigm for urban sustainability as a result of the invasion and independence of new technologies. To accomplish these goals, it is realistic to predict that smart cities will continue to advance in the domain of smart city logistics, a critical component of this game-changing shift. Simultaneously, intelligent logistics contributes to economic growth, the enhancement of human life quality, and the efficient use of economic resources; by enabling flexibility, adaptation, and competitiveness in the context of the creation of a digital society. © 2022 IEEE.
