Abstract Smart tourism in smart cities is a growing trend that presents both opportunities and challenges for sustainable and digitized tourism management. This paper explores the current trends and future challenges in smart tourism within the context of smart cities, focusing on the utilization of mobile applications as key tools for enhancing the tourism experience. By integrating smart city concepts with innovative mobile apps, destinations like Sumedang Regency in Indonesia can leverage technology to optimize tourism management, improve visitor experiences, and promote sustainable practices. This study highlights the importance of smart solutions in transforming traditional tourism destinations into smart tourism hubs, ultimately contributing to economic growth, environmental sustainability, and enhanced visitor satisfaction. © 2024 IEEE.
