Abstract India, facing a significant waste management crisis due to its massive population, is struggling despite traditional cleanup efforts by municipal bodies. The concept of creating 100 smart cities was introduced by the prime minister but is still in its early stages. These smart cities bring new responsibilities, with waste management being a crucial aspect. Proper trash disposal begins with efficient management of garbage bins.Strategic placement and regular emptying of bins are essential for effective waste disposal within communities. The introduction of real-time monitoring systems within these bins could revolutionize waste management. By employing IoT protocols, bin status could be transmitted wirelessly, triggering email notifications when bins are full and need to be emptied. Ultrasonic sensors could help users locate nearby bins and assess the amount of waste present. The key challenge in many Indian towns is the unclean state of bins. This essay proposes enhancing the often-neglected dustbin, introducing an intelligent approach to waste management. IoT protocols would enable constant communication of bin status, generating alerts for timely action. Ultrasonic sensors would aid users in finding bins and gauging fill levels. This advancement could greatly improve cleanliness and waste disposal in urban areas. Through such measures, India could take a significant step towards effective waste management in the context of its smart city initiatives. © 2023 IEEE.
