Abstract The rise of smart cities has transformed how urban areas develop by using advanced technologies to improve efficiency, increase sustainability, and enhance quality of life. Public data plays a crucial role in shaping decisions for smart cities, incorporating information from different sources and sectors. However, integrating public data into smart city initiatives poses several challenges such as data quality concerns, issues of interoperability, lack of transparency and details, and missing data standardization. As the demand for unravelling patterns within these complex datasets intensifies, the development of a robust data warehouse infrastructure emerges as a solution, providing a structured and optimized environment for data storage, integration, and data wrangling of diverse sources of public data. Additionally, data analysis can be used to efficiently extract meaningful insights from the available information to draw conclusions and improve decision-making processes, ultimately benefiting citizens. This chapter delves into the complexities associated with the usage of public data in smart cities and explores current challenges in the data domain.
