Abstract The progressive development of artificial intelligence (AI) combined with advanced information technologies is driving a new era of innovation, transforming human interaction through the use of various digital ecosystems. The chapter highlights the importance and challenges of integrating AI into digital ecosystems. A concept of AI-enhanced ecosystems is proposed, discussing its impact on diverse sectors, including smart cities, industrial Internet of Things (IoT), healthcare, agriculture, autonomous transportation, and more. The paper addresses the issues of incompatibility and limited interaction among numerous technological devices and IoT systems in the construction of intelligent digital ecosystems. To solve this problem, the Home Assistant digital platform was used as an open source. It facilitates the integration of artificial intelligence applications and various devices from different vendors into a single digital ecosystem. We provide an overview of the Home Assistant platform, its design, step-by-step implementation of AI library and present the results of various original test cases. For example, motion and object recognition, intelligent temperature monitoring, server health, power grid management, and a robot vacuum cleaner—all within a single platform. As a result, it is emphasized that the future of digital ecosystems with AI promises revolutionary changes, transforming functionality into more intelligent, adaptive, and comfortable for users. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
