Abstract The integration of artificial intelligence into urban and rural space is set to change the nature of interaction within communities, their development, and sustainability. This paper explores smart citiespowered by artificial intelligence, such as those that play an enabling role in creating a symbiotic relationship between urban and rural spaces to drive sustained development. Considering a detailed literature review and case study analysis, this paper critically evaluates the existing scope of AI applications in smart cityframeworks, with a specific approach to extending such technologies to rural areas also. This has been driven in the context of AI in energy, transportation, healthcare, and agriculture. Case studies presented that we can make bridge between the urban & rural and then demonstrate actual ways of AI how it can enhance resource efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and create connections. Secondly, the paper reveals some policy frameworks of government and collaborative efforts among stakeholders with administrative bodies to ensure even distribution of the benefits of the technology in the places of implementation. In this paper my study argues for the development of smart city approaches that view interventions from both urban and rural perspectives as symbiotic in building resilient and inclusive growth and development. © 2025 Author(s).
