Abstract Large-scale mobility infrastructures as a physical presence in modern cities cannot be ignored. They have powerful influence on the socio-economic organization of cities. In the context of globalized competition, mega-projects as a strategic instrument for urban development remain high on local governments’ agendas. This chapter makes a brief review of the evolution of transport infrastructure in urban history and investigates the main challenges these projects raise. Drawing on the existing research findings and planning practices experiences, it advocates a paradigm shift to the people-centered approach with global thinking and presents a new perspective for future development of mobility infrastructure projects. © 2020 selection and editorial matter, Ole B.
