Abstract With the advent of smart cities, there is a necessity to control the road traffic and vehicular accidents. VANET is an ideal solution for incorporating this requirement. The primary necessity for VANET is the road side units (RSUs). The efficiency and effectiveness of the RSU determines the performance of the VANET. In this paper we propose an Optimal RSU orchestration for VANET architecture based on fog computing. The proposed architecture exhibits better response times compared to many state-of-the-art VANET architectures. The randomized gossip protocol guarantees effective load balancing of the RSUs, thus minimizing the number of RSUs and the cost of installation. © 2019 IEEE.
