Abstract The Internet of Things (IoT) is the most promising technology of recent times that is anticipated to bring a revolutionary change in the way heterogeneous devices can be connected through a perpetual connection. Some of the IoT-centric processes are auto-driven cars, smart city, smart healthcare, smart home etc. Such applications need large bandwidth, high data rate, low latency, and high throughput. These applications at present use the existing 4G network which come with a number of challenges like security, number of connection nodes, etc. However, 5G network is evolving and becoming the main driver for the ubiquitous deployment of such IoT applications. To ensure certain level of reliability and security to the end-users Quality of Service (QoS) is demanded at various levels. Reliability and timely data delivery is required at the network level, while protocols are required for efficient management of resources at the application layer. In this chapter, the authors have provided a broad overview of the IoT scenario with special emphasis on 5G-IoT. A general overview has also been provided on the current research trends on the QoS for IoT/5G-IoT. Future research scopes have also been discussed. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
