Abstract	Wireless communication has undergone tremendous innovations in the past few decades. The transition from 1G to 5G has significantly leaps in wireless technology. The 5G network plays an important role in IoT by offering high data rates, low latency and massive IoT connectivity support. It enables IoT devices to transmit and receive data in real-time and the development of advanced IoT systems such as telemedicine, smart transportation systems and smart cities. However, the deployment of 5G faces several challenges such as infrastructure investment and compatibility with existing technologies. These challenges need to be addressed to ensure the successful deployment of 5G and provide reliable IoT systems. This paper reviews 5G wireless communication, the impact of 5G on IoT developments and their challenges. © 2023 IEEE.
