Abstract	As the world progresses towards the adoption of smart cities, IoT shall be highly crucial in the process of infrastructural development. This review paper describes the significance of the use of IoT technology in the development of smart cities. It shall describe how IoT has made it possible for all developing cities to form a digital environment. The study deals with the positive impact of technology in the development of modern cities. At the same time, it also aims to highlight the challenges that appear in the roadmap towards the said goal. Eventually, it shall aim to point out some of the weaknesses in the IoT roadmap and their possible solutions. © 2023 IEEE.
