Abstract	Artificially Intelligent systems have been implemented to solve a lot of mankind’s toughest problems. This paper aims to see the utilisation of these systems in the field of transportation, by focussing extensively on self-driving cars and their complimenting infrastructure, in the form of Smart Cities. It also traces the history of development of self-driving cars, their hardware and software, and the usage of Artificially Intelligent systems in their operation. A bird’s eye view on Smart City Infrastructure and its role in complementing self-driving cars to create autonomous transportation systems will also be provided to the people. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
