Abstract To achieve a decarbonized society, cities are transitioning to smart cities. Instead of large-scale thermal power generation, with its low thermal efficiency, comprehensive energy management integrating renewable energy source (RES) and combined cooling and heating power generation (CCHP) is being studied. In recent years, model predictive control (MPC), which calculates the optimization including future states and solves the problem based on receding horizon, has attracted attention as a way to deal with the uncertainties of RES. However, since the prediction horizon (Np) is fixed in normal MPC operation, seasonal variations are not considered. MPC operation can be further improved by selecting the Np appropriately and varying it adaptively. In this study, we propose an optimal operation based on MPC that applies different forecast intervals for different seasons, and verify its effectiveness by comparing costs and carbon emissions through simulations. © 2024 IEEE.
