Abstract In recent times, the rate of urbanization is proliferating; thus, there is a need to find a sustainable way for an urban development plan. There is rapid growth in the concept of smart cities all around the globe. A smart city is always incomplete without a smart waste monitoring structure that can manage the waste collection of the entire city. This paper proposes a smart bin monitoring and alerting system, which keeps track of the hazardous gases produced by dumped waste by integrating a network of gas sensors. The system monitors the gas level and alerts the garbage collector to remove the waste by providing him with the bin location using the route map when the gas level exceeds the threshold limit. The proposed system was designed using Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML), Blynk APP, Cascading Style sheets (CSS), jquery and Google Application Program Interface (API) for the continuous monitoring of the proposed smart bin. © 2021 IEEE.
