Abstract Nowadays, due to the mishandling of the current parking system, even a basic action like parking now appears to be a time-consuming and laborious operation. Existing parking systems need a large amount of staff to manage and force customers to look for a parking place floor by floor. This paper proposes a smart parking energy management system for a structured environment such as a multi-story corporate parking space. The system proposes the use of Internet of Things (IoT) technology in conjunction with modern sensors and controllers to establish a systematic parking system for users. Unoccupied parking spaces are highlighted by lights, and users are steered to them to avoid the need to look for an empty parking place. A central system that accesses occupied parking spots in the cloud directs an approaching automobile to an empty parking place. The entire system is fully automatic, which leads to a reduction in the required manpower and improves the aesthetics of parking lot lighting. The proposed model makes the parking system more time-efficient and provides user comfort. It is accomplished by increasing the mean accuracy of car allotment and providing reduction in average time for the user. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
