Abstract As the demand for power has grown, traditional sources of energy cannot meet it all alone. When compared to non-renewable energy sources (RES) for the generation of electricity, RES like solar and wind are becoming more beneficial. However, when a hybrid energy system is implemented for residential or commercial use, the necessity for control of the system becomes apparent. In this study, Internet of Things (IoT) applications for streetlights are used to monitor the energy production of hybrid RES. This hybrid energy enables continuous lamp illumination throughout the year without stopping power production when the sun isn't shining. The data is wirelessly transmitted to the ESP8266 module, which regulates the energy sources by a website. IoT is used to remotely access the transferred data. The primary goals of this study are to develop an efficient hybrid renewable energy system that can efficiently track and regulate street lighting, and to use this system. These devices were integrated with the ESP8266 and an IoT platform to provide real-time monitoring and control. The results of this study show that appropriate IoT technology and sensor selection are crucial to the success of a hybrid renewable energy system for use in street lighting. Additionally, it may be a viable automated and attractive solution for smart city development. © 2023 IEEE.
