Abstract The field of communication technology is evolving quickly and producing a lot of ground-breaking innovations. The emergence of fifth generation (5G) mobile communication networks has emerged as one of the most fascinating and demanding subjects in the field of wireless research. It can connect to hundreds of billions of devices with extremely high throughput and extremely low latency thanks to 5G’s power. With 5G, a truly digital society-known as the Internet of Things (IoT)-is realised, with everything connected through the Internet. The emergence of Internet of Things or IoT, technology gives rise to a range of ideas and applications that benefit humankind, including smart transportation systems, smart cities, smart agriculture, smart retail, and IoT ecosystems. Despite being regarded as a revolution in the development of the Internet, IoT still has to overcome a number of obstacles, including those related to energy conservation, security, performance, and QoS support. In this chpter, we have thoroughly covered the evolution of mobile technology from 1G to 5G,essential structure of IOT in 5G and challenges. Additionally, the study delves into the rationale behind merging IoT and 5G technologies to enhance communication. © 2025 by The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.
