Abstract Rapidly growing smart cities escalate energy demands straining traditional grids, often leading to increased fossil fuel reliance and emissions. This chapter proposes an adaptive Smart Grid model to promote sustainable urban development. The model prioritizes ecological responsibility by integrating renewables (solar, wind) with traditional sources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It also fosters electric vehicle (EV) adoption through strategic charging station placement and incentives, lowering urban transportation emissions. For efficient deployment and user needs, the model utilizes adaptable regulations that seamlessly integrate evolving technologies while maintaining grid stability. Additionally, advanced data analytics optimize energy forecasting, enabling proactive management and minimizing waste. In essence, this model tackles rising energy demands through ecological responsibility, efficient deployment, optimized forecasting, and EV promotion, paving the way for a sustainable future for smart cities. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
