Abstract The present chapter examines the dynamic interaction between emerging technologiesTechnology and sustainabilitySustainability. We review key emerging technologiesTechnology such as IoT, AI, and blockchain in brief. The historical and critical characteristics of emerging technologiesTechnology are traced, showcasing their development and historical impacts on sustainabilitySustainability. Emerging technologiesTechnology promote sustainabilitySustainability through various applications in domains like energyEnergy management, smart grids and smart cities, predictive maintenance, energyEnergyoptimization, resource managementResource management,, and supply chain transparency. Selected case studies illustrate practical applications of these emerging technologiesTechnology. The chapter also explores the role of these technologiesTechnology in sustainabilitySustainability and deliberates on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, addressing challenges and ethical considerations. Furthermore, we reviewed existing policies at international, national, and regional levels that support ET-oriented sustainabilitySustainability. To conclude, we highlighted emerging trends and future directions, urging the research community, policymakers, and industry leaders to take proactive steps in integrating ETs to achieve a sustainable future. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.
