Abstract Consider the current situation of increased population, we have an increase in garbage around urban areas. Here we propose a 'Garbage Management System' that operates automatically to help solve this issue using IOT and sensor based circuitry. This smart garbage management system is going to provide the facilities to the society in efficient manner and also to support social activities like Swachha Bharat Abhiyaan and also promoting recently launched 'Smart City Project' by govt. of India. The usual dustbins require to be opened by pressing foot against its lever and then throwing garbage. Also, a person needs to keep track of when it is full so that it can be emptied and does not overflow. Here we propose a smart garbage management model that does all this by itself. Our system consists of a sensor in order to detect humans, and opens automatically without anyone needing to press its lever. The dustbin automatically opens and closes its lid. It also sends an alert about being full and needing to be cleaned. The proposed system will provide a smarter and easier way to manage garbage management. © 2023 IEEE.
