Abstract Smart cities are the future for urban areas. Integrating the IoT network into urban settlements can generate streams of varying data. This data is then utilized by powerful machine learning models capable of extracting insights to significantly improve urban planning decisions. However, as this technology evolves, multiple ethical and technical issues arise. These will be discussed extensively in this chapter, accompanied by case studies to show the dangers of not eliminating them. In addition, modern tools will be explained to mitigate these challenges and establish an inclusive and efficient city ripe with the opportunity to innovate. © 2025, IGI Global Scientific Publishing.
