Abstract The desire to improve the travel experience has been brought in by modern techniques. Aside from the plans to travel more quickly and safely, the necessity to maintain transportation sustainability has stayed unchanged. To make operations easier, smart cities use cutting-edge technical technologies. Intelligent transport innovations are used in intelligent transportation systems. Cars in traffic may send and receive data among themselves, another vehicle, and the environment thanks to the Internet of Vehicles’ interconnectivity. This information is used to make effective transportation by regulating traffic flows and avoiding collisions. The contribution of intelligent transportation systems to environmental sustainability is examined in this chapter. Electric-powered cars and self-driving cars are examples of technology that reduce dangerous substance emissions while also improving the contact of the car with its environment to avoid a collision. © 2024 selection and editorial matter, Tien Anh Tran, Kolla Bhanu Prakash, Subrata Chowdhury and Ivan CK Tam; individual chapters, the contributors.
