Abstract The convergence of edge AI and the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) has ushered in a transformative era for connected healthcare, particularly in the context of smart cities. This chapter explores the integration of edge AI technologies within the IoMT framework to enhance the efficiency, accessibility, and intelligence of healthcare services in urban environments. Leveraging the proximity of edge computing to medical devices and sensors, this approach minimizes latency, reduces bandwidth consumption, and ensures real-time processing of critical healthcare data. The synergy between edge AI and IoMT not only facilitates advanced diagnostics and personalized treatment but also contributes to the development of proactive healthcare systems. The chapter delves into the challenges and opportunities associated with deploying edge AI in connected healthcare, addressing issues of security, privacy, and interoperability. Furthermore, it examines the impact of edge AI in optimizing resource utilization, improving patient outcomes, and fostering a data-driven healthcare ecosystem. As smart cities evolve, the integration of edge AI into the IoMT promises to revolutionize healthcare delivery, paving the way for more resilient, adaptive, and responsive medical systems. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Pethuru Raj, B.
