Abstract Human population increased drastically due to which there is a rapid human density in urban cities too. This leads to more usage of vehicles and resulting traffic congestion, high rate of carbon emission and greater extent of air pollution, depletion of fuel and increase in fuel cost. As the vehicle count increases these issues get much serious cause in those specific cities. It is noted that Green House Gas emission by transport sector alone is 14% globally. These issues can be addressed by stopping or reducing the consumption of oils or fossil fuels for the vehicle mobility. This can be made possible by deployment of Electric Vehicle (EV) at least in urban areas as an initial stage. EVs can be used to replace Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) in conventional vehicles. Now-a-days the adoption of EVs is a socio-economic prerogative. However there are several challenges associated with this. Apart from technological developments there is a need for change in customer behavior due to extra time to charge the EV, large capital investment and lot many constrains. In case of long duration traffic jam fully battery based EVs cannot move even after clearance of traffic jam since it is fully drained. Addressing such issues is very important in successful deployment of EVs in real time. © 2022 Author(s).
