Abstract The rapid urbanization of modern cities creates problems such as increased traffic congestion, increased greenhouse gas emissions, and environmental degradation. All this creates a need for environmentally friendly transport solutions. This research article examines the dynamics of the electric vehicle market in an urbanized environment, focusing on key factors such as the development of modern infrastructure, government policies, and consumer behaviour. Using a state-of-the-art ARIMA forecasting model, the study aims to predict future trends in the use of electric vehicles and their implications for urban transport infrastructure, economic dynamics and environmental impact. The study contributes to the understanding of how urbanization and environmental issues are shaping the demand for electric vehicles, identifying critical trends that will influence their growth in today’s cities. The integration of electric vehicles into smart city ecosystems is also being investigated, in particular with regard to charging infrastructure and traffic management systems. The results show a steady increase in the use of electric vehicles thanks to various economic incentives, environmental awareness and changing social preferences. The obtained results make it clear to economists, politicians, urban planners and businesses the need for strategic investments in modern infrastructure to support the transition to sustainable urban transport and reduce the harmful impact on the environment. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
