Abstract In present days, the world is more likely to develop into smart cities. Smart city is a place where it uses information and communication technology to overcome modern problems. The governments setup the electronic devices and sensors for alert systems and for controlling methods to provide safety to people with effective use of the devices and sensors. Using water resources effectively and properly we can reduce the water scarcity for future generations. Coming to the water scarcity we need to take measures before any big issues arises. One of the world crises are water scarcity. This is caused due to depletion of fresh water sources. There has been a shortage of drinking water around the world. One of the finest ways to control the wastage of water is tariff method, but it is collected yearly. Our work, smart water meter, proposes a new system based on consumption of water in a month based on limit per day. The limit is set by the water board committee members. The customers are given alert message if their limit has come to an end. And also we introduced the SMS alert method if there is any breakage in the supply of water. The data is monitored by the water board authorities on how much a household the water is consumed. Based on the consumption of water in liters there will be billing method at the end of the month. Thus by this we can control the wastage of water by giving alert messages to the customers. © 2022 IEEE.
