Abstract In this age of urbanization, when urbanization has arisen as a fundamental concern, the development of 'smart cities' has grown as an essential response to address the growing problems of modern urban environments. The article 'Designing resilient network architectures for smart cities using IoT devices' presents a unique approach to creating networks that can survive the complexity and demands of smart city operations. The significance of the proposed solution is shown by this study's multifaceted methodology, which includes several experiments, dataset configurations, and demanding evaluation metrics. At the article's outset, the author emphasizes the significance of robust network architectures in actualizing the vision of smart cities. Network solutions that are scalable, secure, low-latency, reliable, and cost-effective are in high demand due to the exponential growth of Internet of Things (IoT) devices. In response to this critical gap, the study proposes a game-changing method that not only meets but much beyond these minimum standards of adaptability, safety, and overall efficacy. The proposed strategy consistently outperforms the status quo across a spectrum of vital evaluation metrics. Its adaptability to changing network requirements is shown, for example, by a remarkable 16.33% gain in scalability compared to earlier techniques. The security measures have been significantly improved, and the comparison of their scores has shown that the approach has a significant advantage of 12.33 points in terms of security. This demonstrates that the method can protect sensitive data. The decrease in typical latency of 17.67 milliseconds allows for more effective transmission of data in real time. The strategy that has been presented lays the way for a more robust and intelligent urban environment at the same time as smart cities are continuing to develop and create the urban landscape of the future. © 2024 IEEE.
