Abstract Emerging technologies make it possible to enhance the sustainability and resilience capacity of smart cities. However, increasingly the same technologies are susceptible to cybersecurity threats. This chapter’s objective is to examine the connection between cybersecurity and the sustainability and resilience capabilities of smart cities. To this end, this chapter maps the most common types of cybersecurity threats and their impact on smart city domains such as transportation, health, home, and others. These are examined and assessed by considering each layer of the smart city architecture proposed by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The discussion is embedded in the broader framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG11), in which the notion of city’s resilience and sustainability is stressed. © 2021 Elsevier Inc.
