Abstract In this new era of the built environment, City Information Modelling (CIM) is broadly recognized as a multidisciplinary approach that integrates various data sources, technologies, and analytical tools to support urban planning and management (and, to some extent, urban design). Its applications are diverse, multifaceted and highlight potential new directions in urbanism. From many global examples, it is evident that CIM provides a holistic view of the (existing, new, and growing) city, allowing decision-makers to make informed choices for sustainable and resilient urban development. This chapter briefly provides a brief insight into the concept of CIM. It then provides the book’s aim and objectives and a summary of its structure. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
