Abstract Citizen-centric artificial intelligence systems put citizen in their hearts than view them as passive providers of data. Urban living in the smart cities can be enhanced by manipulating artificial intelligence for the expeditious evolution of smart cities. Artificial intelligence systems should give utmost importance and attention to the needs and values of the citizens which is very essential for the urban development and for a sustainable environment. The chapter investigates the notion of the Citizen-centric artificial intelligence with reference to the smart cities stating its importance and role in the urban transformation, promoting inclusivity and accessibility by providing ethical artificial intelligence solutions to ensure transparency and accountability adhering challenges as well. © 2025 by IGI Global Scientific Publishing.
