Abstract Big data and other internet technologies have advanced smart cities. Big data lets us analyse massive data sets and extract important information. It enables smart city residents to make crucial conclusions from their data and varied populations. Like big data, the internet of things has given us intriguing issues to address and helped us design better smart city models. This study discusses municipal planning and design changes that might extend impacts. Smart city architectures need consistent money and technology. Big data analytics aims to transform and aid metropolitan populations at different elevations. Computing and storage are needed to support these applications and services. In a smart city, people utilise resources efficiently and sustainably to live well. Smart cities have major energy management concerns. Hence, it is emphasised. Smart grids, renewable energy sources, and energy storage are needed to provide a more efficient and durable energy infrastructure. © 2024 selection and editorial matter, R. K.
