Abstract A Smart city's built and accessible resources must be aligned to achieve the intended aim. This vision needs the involvement of a wide range of stakeholders in the city's day-to-day activities. ICT, Internet of Things (IoT), and urban informatics are all key tools for improving the efficiency of city operations. Design and planning of smart cities face many challenges, such as technology, talent, funds, and laws and regulations. The right relationship between government and private-sector partners is critical to progress. We must gain experience and update methods and technologies used in smart city development. Combination of big data and 5G can boost the competitiveness and efficiency of small and medium-sized applications. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a way of thinking about a future where digital and physical things can be connected. In a smart city scenario, IoT can be most useful for every user in fields of day today needs. Internet of Things (IoT) provides citizens with practical urban management services and aids in the development of smart cities. The Internet of Things, or Smart City, has a complicated and diversified structure. This paper proposes a new architecture based on data provided by smart cities, and focuses on ICT challenges and opportunities in the context of smart city development and also discusses smart city planning and management, as well as how to best use data to make cities more efficient and effective. © 2023 Author(s).
