Abstract With the continuous improvement of economic level, the number of cars in cities shows a trend of continuous growth. Internet of Vehicles, as the foundation layer of smart cities, can greatly improve transportation efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and reduce traffic accidents. Currently in order to cope with the security and privacy issues of the Internet of Vehicles, researchers have proposed a variety of authentication schemes and agreement protocols, however, existing authentication protocols and key agreement protocols are mostly split apart, so it is necessary to devise a secured and reliable authentication key agreement protocol scheme to protect the communication channel in the Internet of Vehicles. To address the problem that vehicles in different regions need to communicate, we propose a cross-domain certificateless based authentication key agreement protocol. The certificate-less regime is used to achieve lightweight and efficient authentication key agreement, solve the certificate management and key escrow problems, and leverage the blockchain to introduce a decentralized KGC architecture for this protocol to enable cross-domain authentication. We conclude that we gain significant efficiency advantages with respect computational expense and communication expenditure while ensuring the necessary security properties. © 2024 SPIE.
