Abstract The development of Information Communication Technology (ICT) is reflected in a transport revolution that presents one of the greatest changes since the adoption of automobiles. Investors, planners, ICT experts, and policymakers are trying to make sense of the implications of disruptive technology on urban transport; autonomous vehicles (AVs) demand attention. There are both potential benefits and complicated risks in safety, livability, productivity, sustainability, and governance. This chapter explores two different directions that AVs can bring, conceptualized by a “social disorder” vs. “social innovation” framework. It then concludes by examining recent advancements in one of the leading countries in AV adoption—Singapore. © 2021 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
